Elon Musk's tunneling firm, The Boring Co., has been issued conditional utility permits by State of Maryland to begin digging tunnels for a high-speed, underground hyperloop network, the Baltimore Sun reported.
The 10.3-mile tunnel will be the first portion of the underground hyperloop system that the SpaceX founder wants to build between Washington, D.C. and New York City.
The hyperloop could provide travel between the two end destinations in 29 minutes, with stops in Philadelphia and Baltimore.
The Boring Co. is currently testing out underground tunnel technology at the SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, Calif. It plans to create an undeground tunnel route puting vehicles on electric sleds from LAX to Westwood to help reduce traffic, the Baltimore Sun reported.
