MCI Academy, the technical training educational department of Motor Coach Industries, has scored a top technician training award. The Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC) named MCI Academy's HVAC 101 curriculum the Grand Award winner in its 2017 ATMC National Excellence in Training program, recognizing MCI's interior heating and cooling systems training as one of the most innovative in motorcoach industry.

It is MCI Academy's first time in the ATMC competition. Other awards went to General Motors, Raytheon Professional Services and Bosch Automotive Service Solutions.

Scott Crawford, MCI Technical Training Manager, will accept the award on Nov. 1 at the ATMC reception, coinciding with Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW 2017) in Las Vegas.

MCI's HVAC 101 is a four-part training program on the unique environmental systems that define passenger comfort in motor coaches. MCI's live HVAC coursework begins with the basics and progresses to advanced troubleshooting "while incorporating all the best practices for development and delivery of training," ATMC said.

"MCI is advancing the design and development of all its coach models, and one of our objectives is to offer the industry's best training operation in the motor coach industry," said Scott Crawford, MCI Technical Training Manager. "Our operators have told us that attracting top technicians is a top business need and MCI's expanding, multi-subject curriculum has proven to be successful in elevating the skill levels of technicians, drivers and staff in very short amount of time. We're honored that our HVAC program won the ATMC award, and encourage operators to sign up technicians for this award winning course, today."

The award is the latest in a string of firsts for MCI Academy. In July, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) awarded MCI Academy the motor coach industry's first-ever accreditation for its comprehensive suite of live onsite training programs and its self-study LMS online training program.
