TOKYO — Cracks and an oil leak discovered onboard a Tokyo-bound “bullet” train last week forced 1,000 passengers to transfer to different lines, Forbes reports.
Crew onboard the train smelled something burning and later discovered an oil leak. If it had gone undetected, officials said the frame of the entire carriage could have broken and caused the train to derail, according to the report.
The Shinkansen rail network labeled it as the “first serious incident” in 40 years, Forbes reported.
