Valley Metro to add 50 MCI commuter models

Motor Coach Industries (MCI) announced a five-year contract for up to 50 MCI D45 CRT LE and D45 CRT Commuter Rapid Transit coaches from Valley Metro.

The contract begins with an initial order for four MCI D45 CRT LE coaches, scheduled for delivery in summer 2020. The procurement is part of Valley Metro’s strategic plan to improve the level of service and passenger comfort on its commuter express highway routes connecting Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, and surrounding communities.

ADA and Buy America compliant and Altoona tested, MCI’s next-generation Commuter Coach has a patented low-entry vestibule featuring an automated retractable ramp that delivers significantly shorter dwell times and a more efficient boarding process for all passengers.

ElDorado launches new servicing app

ElDorado designed an app for technicians, as well as end users, to offer convenient, at-your-fingertips customer service. Designed by ElDorado’s quality engineer, the app gives technicians easy access to wiring schematics, pin layouts, chassis tie-in locations, how-to-videos, links to parts and warranty, and the ability to call or FaceTime an ElDorado technician.

The app is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, and once installed does not require a Wi-Fi signal to access a range of information, including training manuals that provide essential information necessary to test and repair a REV Salina bus.

Byk-Rak retrofitting Westchester County buses with 2 position bike racks

Byk-Rak is retrofitting 247 Westchester County, N.Y., buses with its two-position bike racks so riders can easily stow their bikes while riding the bus to the next destination where they might continue their multimodal journey on two wheels instead of four. The racks accommodate standard-tire bicycles, from adult-sized bikes down to smaller bikes, such as a children’s size with 16-inch wheels.

Westchester County chose racks with lift-assist technology, which has special springs that allow the bicyclist passenger to pull the rack down more easily and slowly, which aids in accessibility. The transit agency also opted for deployment sensors on their racks for additional safety. With this technology, the driver is alerted when the rack is down and not stowed.
