CHICAGO — According to the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission, ridership of intercity rail on Amtrak routes in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan grew 35% from 2007 to 2012, Chicago Sun-Times reported.
In February, Amtrak installed new safety systems that allow trains to reach up to 110 mph between Northwest Indiana and Michigan. The Chicago-to-St. Louis route began operating at 111 mph in October. For the full story, click here.
