NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is building a seven-foot steel wall to keep out the sea along a two-mile stretch of the A subway line on its way to the Rockaway peninsula in Queens, according to a WNYC report on Transportation Nation.
The $38 million project is expected to prevent flooding from future storm surges like Hurricane Sandy, which ripped the embankment out from under 400 feet of track, MTA officials said. For the full story, click here.
