FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The number of casualties from the May 17 Metro-North Railroad commuter train collision would have been a lot higher if it weren't for the improved safety design of the railcars, according to a Bloomberg News report.
Passengers in the Connecticut crash were protected by strengthened railcar frames and designs intended to absorb and dissipate crash energy through the structures, rather than transferring it to passengers, the report said. For the full story, click here.
