ANN ARBOR, Mich. — MLive reported that the University of Michigan (U-M) is launching a weekend, late-night bus route that will run through neighborhoods typically occupied by students. The route, funded by student groups, will supplement U-M’s free on-campus Safe Ride service.
U-M’s Central Student Government called for the service to help increase student safety off-campus. It found that the majority of incidents warranting campus-wide crime alerts between June 2010 to April 2013 took place off-campus, and that more than half of the incidents happened while a student was walking.
The university estimates that approximately 30,000 students live in the areas surrounding the Ann Arbor campus, according to the paper. For the full story, click here.
