An Amtrak train and a Union Pacific freight train collided today in the Utah desert, sparking a fire and causing minor injuries. Wire services report that the passenger train, Amtrak's California Zephyr, was traveling from Chicago to the San Francisco bay area when it collided with the freight train near Wendover, Utah. Details of the crash are sketchy, but initial reports said the trains collided head on. Minor injuries were reported to some of the passengers. Amtrak officials said there were 263 passengers and a crew of 14. The crash sparked a fire in the desert.
