Federal Transit Administrator Jennifer L. Dorn announced Monday a grant of $13.8 million in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds to the Utah Transit Authority for the University Light Rail Transit (LRT) line. The grant, in the amount of $13,860,183, will be used for the implementation of the 2.5-mile long University LRT line, which extends from Downtown Salt Lake City to Rice-Eccles Stadium on the University of Utah campus. Opened in December 2001, the University LRT line includes four stations and five light rail vehicles. The total estimated cost of the project is $118.5 million.
