The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has warned transit and other railroad systems about possible terrorist attacks, a department official said Friday. DOT spokesman Chet Lunner said the alert was prompted by "unconfirmed, nonspecific reports that indicated attacks" that were being considered against subway trains. All subways and railroad systems, including commuter rail, passenger rail and freight companies, have been alerted. Transit system operators have been asked to "remain in a heightened state of alert," said Lunner.
