Siemens Transportation Systems will supply 33 additional new SD160 light rail transit vehicles to Calgary (Alberta) Transit. The contract is valued at approximately $99 million. The light rail cars feature a new alternate-current propulsion design that increases power for faster acceleration and deceleration, with lower maintenance costs. The vehicles will be manufactured at Siemens' Sacramento, Calif., plant. The order brings Calgary's total to 149 light rail cars.
