The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) plans to install TVs on subway cars in a bid to raise funds without raising fares. The TV network is expected to offer a newscast in addition to advertisements, which could generate $3.5 million in revenues per year. The agency faces a $10 million dollar deficit heading into the next fiscal year that begins July 1, reported The Boston Globe. The agency would begin installing TV monitors inside subway cars on the Red, Orange and Blue lines within the next year, according to the plan, which requires approval from the board, MBTA officials said.
