POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Tri-Rail received a $5.7 million federal grant to turn its Pompano Beach station into a "green station," featuring solar panels that will generate more than 100 percent of its power, with excess energy sent to the power grid or stored for nighttime lighting of the platforms and parking lots, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Officials say it will be the first transit station in Florida and one of the first in the nation to be completely supported by solar energy. For the full story, click here.
