KANSAS CITY — KC Streetcar officials are hopeful the 2.2-mile downtown system will be operable by March, with plans in the works for a big grand opening celebration in April, The Kansas City Star reports.

Construction on the system is nearly complete and testing on the first two of four streetcar vehicles continues with good results. The system would ideally be running in time for the Big 12 college basketball tournament in March, with the celebration planned for April so it doesn’t compete with any other events in the area.
