HONOLULU — The state House of Representatives approved its version of a bill to extend the half-a-percentage point General Excise Tax surcharge for the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit’s (HART) light rail project, Hawai’i Public Radio reports.

The state’s finance committee chair says the bill would generate $792 million, while also reducing the state’s administrative fee from 10% to 1%, which would create another $397 million, bringing the total of the bill to $1.2 billion in funding for the HART project that currently has a $1.3 billion.

The bill now heads to a joint Senate and House conference committee to work out differences between the two bills. For the full story, click here.
