OTTAWA, Canada — The consortium building Ottawa's $2.1-billion light rail transit (LRT) system will miss its deadline to hand over the Confederation Line, as it is called, by Nov. 2, 2018, CBC News reported.

Currently, there is no new deadline for the handover, the report said.

Rideau Transit Group (RTG), which was originally supposed to deliver the LRT system to the city last May, said it could only meet the newer deadline if it didn't meet certain contract requirements.

Due to the delay, city officials are considering freezing transit fares and reinstating bus routes, according to CBC News.
