NEW YORK — Amtrak activated positive train control (PTC) between Philadelphia and New York over the weekend, with the system also put into place between Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. the previous week, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Transportation experts have said the PTC braking system would have prevented the fatal Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia earlier this year. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority expects PTC to be operational on all Regional Rail lines by the end of January. For the full story, click here.
