PETALUMA, Calif. — Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) train commuters will be able to get discounted rides between the rail station and work through a six-month, $70,000 pilot program with Lyft, the Marin Independent Journal reports.

The program allows customers to use a mobile application from a smartphone to hail a LyftLine driver to take themselves and other SMART riders, traveling in the same general direction, to and from work. Details still need to be worked out, but commuters would be issued some type of coupon to cover up to $5 of the ride, with the first $2 to be paid by the customer.

SMART train service could start as soon as late spring, with more stops coming on line as soon as 2018. For the full story, click here.
