The latest Transit Savings Report shows that individuals who switch from driving to riding public transportation can save, on average, up to $830 this month.
Despite high gas prices and a slow economy Americans who ride public transportation save, on average, $9,968 annually and $831 per month, based on the July 14, 2011 average national gas price of $3.66 per gallon.
The latest “Transit Savings Report” notes that by living with one less car and riding public transportation, individuals can save, on average, $9,682 annually, and $807 per month based on the February 10, 2011 average national gas price.
Riders can save on average $788 per month. According to the 2010 edition of the AAA annual report ‘Your Driving Costs’ the cost of owning and operating a vehicle has increased 4.8 percent since last year. The leading factor was the rise in fuel prices.

The release of the June Transit Savings Report coincides with National Dump the Pump Day. Dump the Pump Day, held on June 18, is intended to encourage people to ride public transportation to save money and protect the environment.
Based on the cost of parking and the May 5 gas price of $2.079 as reported by AAA, the association’s Transit Savings Report calculates the average savings for public transit users at $724 per month.
