AVTA received its 20th electric MCI coach for their commuter routes. The addition of these buses to AVTA’s fleet of BYD zero-emission buses, enables the agency to place into service a 100% zero-emission transit fleet.
Since August, AVTA has been receiving and placing into service their zero-emissions, high-capacity commuter coaches from MCI. Over the next few weeks, AVTA will receive the 20 electric commuter coaches necessary to retire the remaining diesel commuter fleet.
In those five million electric miles, approximately 1.2 million gallons of diesel fuel have been saved, according to AVTA chairman Marvin Crist.
Using wireless, inductive power transfer pads embedded in the roadway, AVTA’s electric vehicles can seamlessly charge while on route, drastically reducing the need for large battery packs and cumbersome charging stations.

In-route charging means buses can have smaller batteries, reduced vehicle weight, a higher passenger capacity, and extended range.
