It is expected that CTTRANSIT's Stamford Division is the next service to utilize Google Transit, and other CTTRANSIT divisions are expected soon after.

The vehicles replaced non-hybrid vehicles, some almost 10 years old and most with well over 100,000 miles on them. These new hybrids will get 20 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway, improving the fuel economy of the entire Supervisor fleet. They are an addition to the two Prius hybrid automobiles already in use by the Hartford Division.
Both types of buses are replacing 15-year-old buses in the Connecticut-based operating fleet.
Today, the maturation of alternative fuels has made it easier for transit agencies to implement programs than it was for early adopters in the 1990s. Even still, there are many lessons to learn from the early pioneers, including being aware of possible infrastructure and training investments.
The New Haven Division will receive 14 40-foot hybrids, with 17 35-foot hybrids going to the Waterbury Division to help upgrade its 15-year old fleet. CTTRANSIT is the first transit system in the U.S. to receive this new model of bus from New Flyer Inc.
A possible strike loomed if the rank and file had voted not to ratify the tentative agreement worked out by management and union negotiators. A previous tentative agreement between the parties did fail to win ratification in two previous votes, most recently on Dec. 23, 2010.
The extension agreement averts a possible strike by CTTRANSIT employees in the Hartford, New Haven and Stamford divisions that could have occurred at midnight on Dec. 31, 2010.
More than 750 CTTransit workers voted earlier this month to reject a proposed 33-month contract created by CTTransit management. Workers primarily object to a requirement that they contribute to their health care premiums.
In addition to the impressive facility, the New Haven community will soon benefit from new buses in the fleet. The Governor and DOT officials proudly unveiled the first of 12 "bendy buses" during the dedication ceremony.
