In 2006, Centro was named the American Public Transit Association's Best Mid-sized Transit System in North America.
The Hub, which was designed by QPK Design and constructed by Bette & Cringe, opened in September 2012 and serves as the main transfer location for more than one million Centro riders annually.
The cost of the new system is approximately $2.8 million and is being funded through $2.25 million in SAFETEA-LU grant monies from Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), along with 10 percent matches provided by both Syracuse University and the New York State DOT.
Transit customers will have an off-street, open-air, but fully sheltered and supervised location with a dedicated platform section for each specific bus route.
