The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) has been awarded up to $5,000,000 to establish the National University Rail Center of Excellence (NURail CoE).
The funding is the largest amount ever awarded for rail safety and rail supply chain upgrades through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program.
The program will provide federal funding for projects to upgrade and safeguard rail infrastructure in Alaska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2026.
Nationally, the RCE Program will provide over $570 million in funding for 63 projects in 32 states.
