Additional Assistance Funding may be awarded to transit systems demonstrating additional assistance is needed to cover operating expenses related to maintaining day-to-day operations, cleaning and sanitization, combating the spread of pathogens on transit systems, and maintaining critical staffing levels.
FTA’s Areas of Persistent Poverty Program supports planning, engineering and technical studies, or financial planning to improve transit services in any areas experiencing long-term economic distress, in rural and urban communities alike. It can also fund low and no emissions transit vehicles and associated infrastructure.
The Partnership Program is intended to improve intercity passenger rail performance by funding capital projects to repair, replace, or rehabilitate publicly owned or controlled railroad assets, thereby bringing them into a state of good repair.
Nine of the projects were selected to specifically address safety at highway-rail grade crossings, and deter illegal trespassing, which is the leading cause of rail-related deaths in America.
The competitive grant funds are provided through the Public Transportation Innovation Program.
The 30-day extension applies to grant programs currently administered by FTA with active notices of funding opportunities.
