Italy's NTV is leveraging two options included in a previous contract signed with Alstom in October 2015 for the purchase of eight Pendolino high-speed trains and associated maintenance.
This new train, an evolution of the former Pendolino high speed train, can reach a maximum speed of 155 mph. Measuring 614 feet long, the train will be composed of 7 cars accommodating around 480 passengers.
The 182 mph record was reached as it was conducting tests in the presence and in partnership with its customer, Polish operator PKP Intercity, to obtain circulation permission for the 20 Pendolino trains ordered by PKP Intercity in 2011.
The contract includes the refurbishment of the interiors, bar, kitchen facilities and toilets. The work is being undertaken at two Alstom Traincare Centres in the U.K. and will be performed over a period of eight months.
Part of Alstom's high-speed train offering, Pendolino is designed to run on both high-speed and conventional lines. With around 500 trains sold worldwide, Pendolino is the world's best-selling high speed train, according to the company.
