The Chicago Transit Board approved the award of a $2.9 billion contract to Walsh-VINCI Transit Community Partners following a comprehensive, two-year procurement process.
The RLE project is a 5.6-mile extension of the Red Line starting at 95th Street Terminal to the vicinity of 130th Street and includes building four new, accessible stations near 103rd Street, 111th Street, Michigan Avenue, and 130th Street.
Planned closures are scheduled between summer 2024 and summer 2026, with additional construction planned over the winter holidays.
The RLE TSD Plan is a proactive effort to create a guide for the future development of the long-disinvested communities located near the RLE project area that is also reflective of the vision of those who currently reside and do business in these communities.
Commencing work on the RLE project is dependent on securing funding, however, by beginning this process of pre-qualifying potential contractors now will help expedite overall project development and ensure CTA maintains its timeline to begin construction as early as 2025.
MARTA’s Track Replacement Project will replace heavy rail between Buckhead and Medical Center stations beginning Friday, Feb. 18.
The dedicated track and facility will give the MBTA flexibility and control over the testing process and will allow a faster rollout of the new fleet.

Including signal upgrades, the MBTA is investing nearly $2 billion in both lines as part of the Red Line/Orange Line Infrastructure Improvement Program.
The bus will serve IndyGo’s Red Line, a 13.1-mile BRT route that runs between Broad Ripple on the north side of the city and the University of Indianapolis on the south side.
