The move will result in an additional $1.25 per hour wage increase, which for example, would increase the starting hourly wage for Broward County Transit bus operators to $20.73.

Long before the effects of COVID-19, the public transit industry saw a shortage of vehicle operators and maintainers. During the Covid era, that shortage became more acute — to the extent that many systems have curtailed service due to a lack of staff.
So far in 2023, the CTA has added 304 new bus operators – more than 43% of its annual hiring goal.
The new starting pay for a GRTC bus operator is $24.91, up from the previous starting pay of $17.43.
There have been transit agencies who have integrated a bus simulator into their bus operator training program and have been successful in achieving the results they had hoped for. They did their homework before purchasing, and by doing so, it placed them in a position to be successful.
Receiving this award is an achievement for transit safety professionals.
