S.F. Muni turns buses into showers for homeless

Local tech entrepreneur starts outreach organization and converts a bus to accommodate two separate, private areas, each with a shower stall, sink, changing area, toilet and bench and will put it into operation in May. The organization will put three more converted buses on the streets this fall.

SEPTA has partnered with an organization that works to end homelessness to create the "Hub of Hope," which offers a variety of services and housing, especially for those experiencing long-term street homelessness.

Line 22, the only bus route that runs 24 hours in the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority system, becomes an unofficial shelter each night, with riders taking the two-plus hour trip from East San Jose to Palo Alto before heading back again.
