Chicago Transit Authority marks 125 years of 'L' train service

Trains began running on the city's first elevated railway on June 6, 1892, after the Chicago & South Side Rapid Transit Railroad Co. built the first elevated tracks from Congress and State to 39th, with trains of wooden passenger cars pulled by small, coal-burning, steam locomotives.
