The monorail’s advantages include its high passenger capacity combined with the fact that the system is cost effective to introduce as it does not require major infrastructure or civil works.
The one-mile-long monorail line, which was built for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair to provide a crucial link between the fairgrounds and the amenities downtown, carried 1.9 million passengers in 2011.
It will generate 250 new jobs directly dedicated to railway vehicle production, including aluminum car body, bogie and final assembly activities. In addition, approximately 500 indirect jobs will be created based on increased activity in Bombardier's local supplier base.
The high-capacity MOVIA metro, the highly energy-efficient FLEXITY 2 light rail vehicles and the CITYFLO 650 communication-based train control system are also being exhibited.
