Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), called for the hearing months before the recent deaths of BART worker Christopher Sheppard, 58, and contractor Laurence Daniels, 66, regarding concerns about "unresolved" BART workplace safety issues in recent years, the report said.
Attuned to the contact between trains and tracks, the sensors can detect potential problems like excessive vibrations, mechanical defects, or speed and temperature anomalies.
Includes provision requiring installation of anti-collision technology – positive train control – on railways shared by passenger and freight trains.
