The Natchez Regional Transit Center and Maintenance Facility will serve as a regional passenger transfer hub for the Natchez Transit System. The FTA provided approximately $3.8 million, with the majority of funds coming from ARRA, while the City of Natchez and Mississippi Department of Transportation covered the rest of the costs.
The agency also launched a new student transit pass program and the pilot for a contactless fare payment system.
Scheduled to open this fall, the 6,460-square-foot facility is located within walking distance of key facilities, including the Thomas & Mack Center, Cox Pavilion, and various academic and administrative buildings.
The estimated cost has increased by 10% to $330 million. Work on the project has already begun.
