Unlike a mobile application, Where’s My Ride is an integrated Intelligent Transportation System, developed by Strategic Mapping, that uses accurate location data provided by a GPS device that is mounted inside each DCTA Connect bus and A-train railcar.
The GPS-based system will provide audio and visual stop announcements inside the Denver Regional Transportation District’s nearly 1,000 buses and broadcast route and destination information outside the buses when the doors open at bus stops.
York, Pa.'s rabbittransit has equipped all vehicles with GPS, allowing riders to track buses in real-time on the agency's Website, through an iPhone app, and on screens at the agency's Transfer Center.
Under the terms of the three-year agreement, with two one-year options, MV will partner with the RTA to manage a fleet of 16 buses, and assist with real time reporting, vehicle tracking and system design.
