This week, the University of California, Berkeley will e-mail a survey asking students, staff and faculty for information on transportation and housing.

In addition to informing campus transportation and housing initiatives, it provides details valuable to the work of reducing Berkeley's greenhouse-gas emissions and improving its environmental footprint. The ClassPass and BearPass transit cards came about as a result of past surveys.

Approximately one-half of faculty, staff and students will be selected in a random sample intended to give planners a good set of data. The survey has been done every three years since 1980.
