California's Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) project, which was among 47 projects awarded money through the Federal Transit Administration's Bus and Bus Livability Program, received $5 million.

The program is aimed at upgrading bus services and facilities throughout the country. More than 280 applications representing $2 billion in projects applied for funds.

"We are delighted to receive additional funding from the federal government to help make ARTIC a reality for our community," said Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, also an Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) board member. "This project will greatly improve the ability of residents and visitors to move around Anaheim and the entire Southern California region using buses and other mass transit options."

The project is envisioned to be a transportation hub that is functional, adaptable and flexible, according to representatives. ARTIC will accommodate current modes of transportation such as bus, rail and shuttle connections to the Anaheim Resort Area and future services including high-speed trains, and is being designed as a vibrant urban center that offers civic and public space.

ARTIC is situated at major freeways and is a short walk from Angel Stadium of Anaheim and Honda Center. Construction on the 16-acre site, owned by OCTA and Anaheim, is expected to begin next year.
