The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) is preparing for large crowds and extensive traffic detours during Pope Francis’ three-day visit to Washington, D.C. Tuesday, Sept. 22, through Thursday, Sept. 24.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend events during the Papal visit, which will likely result in crowding and delays on trains and buses, and could produce near Inauguration ridership levels at selected stations.
To help weekday commuters and visitors navigate the system during the visit, the agency released two travel trip videos. The English and Spanish videos offer travel tips, recommend alternate travel options to consider and detail where crowding and delays are expected near Papal events.
