MERCED, Calif. — Five people died and at least five more suffered major injuries in a charter bus crash on Highway 99 The Modesto Bee reports.

The white bus with no identification markings was carrying about 30 people from Southern California to the Sacramento area when it struck a large pole, which appeared to have torn through the center of the bus, splitting the front half nearly down the middle. For the full story, click here.
