Denver RTD, Kiewit launch rail construction

After a competitive bidding process following an unsolicited proposal by Kiewit Infrastructure Co., the RTD board of directors awarded a contract to Kiewit in July 2012 to complete the full I-225 Rail Line by the end of 2015. The line will open in 2016 after about six months of testing.

Denver RTD earns high ranking in mobility report

Denver was recently ranked among the top 40 cities in the 2012 Urban Mobility report, released by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, based on hours of delay saved because of the use of public transit. The report also concluded that public transit saved 865 million hours of delay on U.S. roads.

Denver RTD, Red Cross partner on disaster preparedness

The agency is installing 30 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in 17 locations and has trained 20 employees in CPR and the use of the AEDs. The training and AEDs are part of a larger effort by the two organizations to improve preparedness in the community.

Denver RTD increases railcar entry space for wheelchairs

The entry space on its FasTracks commuter-railcar will be increased by a foot to prevent wheelchairs from becoming stuck in the space as cars prepare to leave the station.

Denver RTD educating public on rail crossing safety

Agency planners visited elementary schools within blocks of one of its commuter and light rail lines to teach students how to safely cross rail intersections. They are also telling the public about the potential danger of newly energized overhead electrical lines that power the rail system.
