Due to what it describes as long production delays and shoddy workmanship, the agency is considering terminating its $190 million contract for 75 commuter railcars from Hyundai Rotem Corp.

The $166M order is part of the contract signed in Oct. 2009 with SNCF. The Coradia Polyvalent is a single-level regional train that can travel at up to 99 mph in both its electric and hybrid versions.

The estimated $57M contract for 18 DMUs includes options for Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit District and its partner agencies to purchase up to 146 cars. The delivery of 18 DMUs is scheduled from the end of 2013 through the middle of 2014.
The contracts are canceled and CAF will forego any additional payments for unpaid work and lost profits. In addition, CAF will refund $14 million to Metro. The agreement was ratified by Metro's board on Friday.

Munich City Utilities has placed an order for 21 new C2 type underground trains worth about $247M. Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co. Ltd. has placed a $56M order for 35 trailer cars for the Thai capital’s elevated rapid transit system, BTS Skytrain.

With funding approval completed, the contract now enters into force and the final price has been fixed using the applicable exchange rate. The contract is valued at $1.18 billion.
