Downtown Portland free rail zone ends

Over the weekend, the Free Rail Zone in Downtown Portland and the Lloyd District is being eliminated for riders of Portland Streetcar and TriMet. The change means that a valid fare will be required to ride both Portland Streetcar and MAX Light Rail in this area.

Portland Streetcar is introducing a new $1 fare and installing easy-to-use fare machines on streetcar platforms. The $1 fare will be for streetcar use only and valid for two hours. As always, Portland Streetcar recognizes valid TriMet fares and passes.

These changes come at a time when the streetcar system is preparing to open the Loop, a major expansion of the streetcar system that brings service to Portland’s east side. The Loop will open for service in September, with grand opening activities planned.
