Celebrating both a new contract and a state-of-the-art facility, Roadrunner Shuttle and Limousine Service held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Camarillo, Calif., to highlight shuttle vans and buses fueled by clean, economical and domestic propane autogas supplied by ROUSH Clean Technology.

Recently awarded a contract by the Ventura County Transportation Commission to provide VISTA intercity bus service, Roadrunner will use the new facility for that operation and for storage of their propane autogas vehicle fleet.

“When we purchased our first four propane autogas shuttle vans over a year ago, we anticipated a positive return,” said Charles Sandlin, operations manager for Roadrunner Shuttle. “Since then we’ve added an additional 13 shuttle vans and two shuttle buses that are currently saving the company nearly $1,500 per vehicle per month.”

Roadrunner shuttles passengers in ROUSH CleanTech Ford E-250 vans and 20-passenger Ford E-450 buses equipped with wheelchair-accessible slots.

For convenience and to further reduce fuel costs, Roadrunner Shuttle added a 2,000-gallon fueling facility near the new contract bus yard. The infrastructure for propane autogas is less expensive than any other alternative fuel, and with thousands of stations across the nation, propane autogas boasts the largest public refueling infrastructure of all alternative fuel options.

In addition to saving money, each shuttle van saves more than 37,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Propane autogas is a low carbon fuel that reduces greenhouse gases by up to 25%, carbon monoxide by up to 60%, nitrogen oxide by 20%t and virtually eliminates particulate matter when compared to conventional fuels. In addition, non-toxic propane does not harm soil or groundwater.
