HDR joint venture wins Toronto design contract

HDR Corp., in a joint venture with VIA Architecture, was selected by Metrolinx to provide pre-AFP design services for the Eglinton-Yonge Light Rail Transit Interchange Station in Toronto.

The station is part of the city's Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown Light Rail Transit system, a project that will connect riders from Black Creek Drive to Scarborough City Center. HDR will provide project management, station architecture, structural, civil and traffic design.

The multi-level, below grade station will be located at the intersection of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue. The interchange connects the east to west Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown LRT with the north to south Yonge subway line. The new station will connect to the existing subway station and adjacent buildings, enhance mobility and optimize passenger transfer, and improve the streetscape of the neighborhood above.

The station is one of three interchange stations that will be built along the Eglinton–Scarborough Crosstown line. In addition to the Eglinton-Yonge Station, HDR, in a joint venture with Halcrow Yolles, also provided preliminary design services for Eglinton West (Allen) Interchange Station.

The Eglinton-Yonge Station is planned to open in 2020.
