CHICAGO — A draft report prepared for the Northeastern Illinois Transit Task Force concluded that Chicago’s public transportation systems are not doing enough to meet the commuting needs of the region, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Gov. Pat Quinn created the task force to get reform suggestions after controversy erupted over Metra’s ouster of former CEO Alex Clifford.
The report found that even some major suburban job hubs “can’t be reached in a 90-minute commute,” planning efforts are “haphazard” and referred to some areas as “transit deserts.”
The region will not meet a goal of doubling transit use by 2040, according to the report. For the full story, click here.
