Las Vegas’ Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will begin surveying households across the community to report their transportation habits as part of the Southern Nevada Household Travel Survey.

The survey will identify what transportation investments are critical in Southern Nevada and take place in two phases — the first from March to May and the second from August to October.

The Southern Nevada Household Travel Survey is conducted every 10 years, with the results assisting the RTC in determining what new transit and road projects are needed to improve access to jobs, schools, healthcare and other destinations across the valley. The RTC will survey 4,000 randomly selected households across the region.

Participants will answer a 10 to 15 minute survey by mail, asking questions about their transportation habits. In addition, residents will keep track of the places they visit for one day and report their travel activity by telephone, online or by mail. Selected households will log their commutes using a global positioning system device to record the roads and paths they travel. Participants who complete the survey will receive an incentive.

The survey is 95% federally funded, with 5% coming from local transportation funds.
