SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After adding 25 new fare inspectors or transit agents on its light rail system, fare evasion on the Sacramento Regional Transit system dropped from 15.5% in May to 5.1% in August, Capital Public Radio reports.

For years, regional transit had just 10 transit officers riding the trains and checking tickets, leaving room for people riding the light rail system for free. The fine for riding without a valid ticket is more than $150. For the full story, click here.
