Serious crime down, 'violent crime' up on D.C. Metro
The uptick in violent incidents matches trends observed in large cities nationwide, according to crime experts.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to data released Monday, serious crime on Metro was down about 5% for last year, but violent crimes, such as aggravated assaults were up 31% and represent the most dramatic increase in crime on the system, The Washington Post reported.
Last year, several high-profile incidents, including a shooting on a train and a fatal shooting on a platform, raised fears among many riders and led to calls for an increased police presence on trains and in stations, the report said.
The uptick in violent incidents matches trends observed in cities, according to crime experts, where some lower-level offenses have decreased but violent crimes have been on the upswing, the Post reported. For the full story, click here.
