The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Lindbergh Center Station in dedication of a new $1.2 million mobile command center.
The 45-foot vehicle provides the MARTA Police and Emergency Management Department with enhanced communication tools to respond to natural disasters, security threats, and major sporting events that affect transit operation. The command center is equipped with a 24-hour generator, 40-foot mast, external camera monitors, MARTA CCTV, voice-over internet protocol, restrooms, and seating for 20 people. Vehicle communications feature direct, cellular, and satellite connectivity.
The vehicle is eligible for 100% reimbursement funding through the Federal Transit Urban Grant Program for security investments.
