The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) opened a new Travel Training Facility designed for customers with disabilities to learn how to use the train and fixed-route bus networks; transit options that offer greater flexibility and independence.
MARTA provides curb-to-curb paratransit services — MARTA Mobility — to individuals with disabilities, and will continue to do so. To use MARTA Mobility, however, customers must first qualify for the service and then schedule their trips in advance with MARTA.
By learning how to use MARTA’s regularly scheduled rail service and the agency’s 91 fixed-route buses, individuals with disabilities can instead get to their destinations without scheduling Mobility trips. The Travel Training Facility’s services are free, self-paced, voluntary and based on each customer’s individual transit needs.
The facility includes simulated railcars, bus stops and Breeze card vending machines to help customers practice critical transit-riding skills. To ensure convenience and comfort, all MARTA buses and trains are already wheelchair accessible and have priority seating for individuals with disabilities.
Elevators are located in all rail stations and MARTA’s bus fleet is equipped with wheelchair lifts.
