The new low-floor trolley service on the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System's Orange Line completes a $17 million renovation of Orange Line Stations. The agency’s Trolley Renewal project also included $271 million to purchase 65 new low-floor vehicles from Siemens.

Signed contracts for up to 350 Gillig 40-foot low-floor CNG buses and up to 165 New Flyer 60-foot low-floor articulated CNG buses through 2017. The total value of the contracts, if all options are exercised and future funding is available, is in excess of $343 million, inclusive of sales tax, licenses, fees and delivery.

Signed an agreement to finalize the sale of the San Diego Trolley U-2 model light rail transit vehicles for $5.1 million. MTS is more than halfway through a program to replace the cars with new low-floor vehicles, manufactured by Siemens.

Will purchase 53 new 40-foot low-floor compressed natural gas buses for $22.3 million and seven more low-floor trolleys for $26.9 million, in addition to 57 low-floor cars already on order.

Gets perfect score for second consecutive time. Oversight committee compared MTS to other transit systems in the U.S. and found that it is the most efficiently operated transit agency among nine peer systems.

The Provincial Government of Mendoza purchased 11 vehicles from San Diego MTS for $3.3 million, signing a contract in September 2010. Four light rail vehicles were recently unveiled on the soon-to-open Metrotranvía Mendoza light rail system.
